navel-orangeWith the arrival of autumn comes the beginning of the Florida Navel Orange season.  Navels are available year-round, but now is the big push for Florida navels.    Navels are seedless with the tell-tale “belly button” on the blossom end of the fruit.

Florida navels are a great source of fiber and vitamin C, on top of tasting great.  They make a good snack, whether they are juiced or halved.  Many little league coaches give their teams orange wedges during games and practices.

Navels are fat-free, sodium- free, cholesterol-free and high in vitamin C.  As a matter of fact, the only down side to Florida navels is that they aren’t available all year long.
